Gold Award 2017
No nonsense and nourishing.
Sounds too good to be true but happily, we’re able to say we cracked it! The No Bite Butter Bar is a Coconut Oil and Shea Butter based body butter. The big news about the No Bite is that we won a Gold Award from The Green Parent Natural Beauty awards this year in their After Sun category - recognition for the fact that it’s a great moisturiser for the skin, especially sun exposed fragile skin.
The No Bite Butter Bar is a great preventative skincare product, combined with nature’s best healers as an all natural solution for healthy beautiful skin. It doesn’t just moisturise your sun-exposed skin throughout the summer, it actively repels little beasties, especially the flying variety such as the British midges as well as their cousins the mosquitoes.
Many of our customers love the outdoors with the British Isles worshipped by campers and hikers alike, and many heading for the Scottish highlands. The Highlands are stunning but also a Mecca for midges. So, we spent a little time learning about them!
What do we know about Scottish midges?
- As is nature’s way, there are many different species of midge. In Scotland alone there are over 35 different species of the biting variety.
- Interestingly, it’s only the females that bite you, so she is nourished enough for her to continue to lay eggs. Males are vegetarian and survive purely on nectar!
- Midges are extremely small so do not cope when the weather is windy. But as you may have experienced, they love humid climates.
- They’re also not great fans of bright light which is why they are most active early in the morning and at dusk. Just when you are sitting out of an evening we find!
- It’s the anticoagulant that they release that makes us itch from the bite wound. Depending on our immune systems we all react to varying degrees.
- Unfortunately, we also vary in our attractiveness to midges through variation in our own natural odour and temperature.
Nature already holds the answer
We can take preventative action against the odour factor. One of the essential oils we use is Bog Myrtle. Bog Myrtle is grown in the Scottish Highlands and is known for its active ability to repel midges.
The addition of Citronella, Lemon Eucalyptus and Scottish Bog Myrtle, all highly effective natural insect repelling oils, making it an effective deterrent against all flying biting insects.
Already a fan of some of our other products but used to insect repellent sprays, one customer wasn't sure if No Bite was for her. On a camping trip away she used a well-known brand, spraying it on her skin and hair. The spray melted the enamel on her hair clip! She was disgusted and so are we. She was rightly concerned about what the spray was doing to her skin if that's what it did on paint. She would never use anything but No Bite from now on.
We’ve had people use the bar for the first time or after using other remedies that have failed to protect them, and each say they would only ever use No Bite now. Even those most who are unfortunate enough to be the dining preference for midges have been saved!
“This stuff is magic in a bottle! I have been through so many products to avoid getting bitten and creams to heal insect bites and unfortunately, the insects still love me…No bite butter bar is the first product that I have applied to my skin and have stayed bite free, it's amazing”
The formula works with your natural body, again one benefit of using nature’s best ingredients.

"Have been bitten by gnats and midges for over 50 years and finally found something which really works without that horrible DEET smell! Excellent product which provides ample protection from biting insects."
"This is the second one I've bought would definitely recommend to anyone who hates being bitten, very soothing. Item came in a beautiful presentation pouch would make a wonderful gift. Thank you, keep up the good work.”
“Was bought these as a gift and used them on a weeks’ camping in Ashdown Forest. The first night I forgot about them and used a traditional no bite repellent - got bitten. Second night used the no bite body butter, smelt great and didn't get eaten. Also used the green healing balm on my original bites and other stings - very calming and stops the itching, brilliant”
